Boroo Nuur, Mongolia, 2014A Contemporary Rural Residence
Set within the expansive Mongolian steppe, this single-family house is designed to blend harmoniously with the natural landscape. The linear design follows the terrain's gentle curves, using local materials to integrate the structure within the natural hues of the countryside.
An integrated greenhouse, placed in the site's most insulated corner, supports sustainable practices and is coherent with the linear concept, optimizing energy efficiency.
A single, bold black chimney connects an inner fireplace to an outdoor grill. It serves as a practical element and symbolizes the connection between the dwelling and the land.
The house is organized on one floor. All rooms connect via a northern corridor, while large glazed doors to the south invite the landscape inside, maximizing views and natural insulation.
Despite challenges and owner-developed details, the core design ethos remained intact. This project reconciles modern living with the natural environment through material selection, orientation, and element integration. It stands as a residence both visually subtle and contextually appropriate, functioning in unison with its site.
